Timber Gang - Tie Replacement
The following photos were taken on November 4, 2001 by Tom Daspit in San Jose, CA. This equipment was begin
used by the UP for tie replacement. The flat cars were used to transport all of the equipment for the
timber gang. Notice the ramps, which make this operation self unloading.
The following photos were taken by Tom Daspit on October 29, 2001, in Gilroy, CA. UP was doing a large tie
replacement program from south San Jose through Gilroy. This equipmemt was not being used at the time.
The following photos were taken by Tom Daspit on October 29, 2001, just north of San Martin, CA. Ties are being replaced
and the old ones loaded up to be carted away.
The following photos were taken on September 23, 2001 by Tom Daspit. The UP was replacing ties through the area.
One of the cars carrying ties was set out, bad order, because the load had shifted and the banding had
broken. The gon is loaded with buckets of spikes.
